fridgepunk: cat plays with cord of an iron while sitting on an ironing board (Irony)

I've noticed there is a huge wank going on about placing warnings on fanfic.

I've also noticed that unlike other wanks I've followed this one is epicly lacking in substance - a good outcome during racefail or any of the various feminist/misogyny wanks is the creation of communities that are supportive of those wronged.

The best possible outcome for this is that people who write rapefics might occasionally put a fucking trigger warning on some of their more explicit and violent fics.

Which you're kind of expected to do anyway btw in pretty much every fic community I've ever written in or read - character death is sometime a bit more complex, but you'd still warn for it if only to avoid the "how dare you kill off my character" wanks if not for any other reason.

This is because the nature of society, and fanfic coms certinaly are a form of society, is based around compromise, empathy and not being a troll.

And the whole "you can just hit the back button!" stuff? "ONCE SEEN CANNOT BE UNSEEN" is the only rebuttal really needed, and it's not a great deal of help to someone who then has to pick up the shattered remnants of their psyche after reading the out-of-left-field graphic description of rape in your fanfic that you posted to a com not specifically about rapefics without giving such a person a fair ability to filter.

I also get why people were using terms like "privelage" to describe behaviour that isn't strictly privelage now; The problem is that the worst of the wankers smell of privelage because they are being pompous arseholes, and being a pompous arsehole + insititutional violence to support the arseholery and make it normative = privelage, and I suspect that the worst wankers were under the impression that there was some sort of elaborate institutional practice in fanfic and slash coms to support their refusal to label their shit. Which is probably also why they're now trying to leverage ablism to support their refusal to label stuff.

My request is that someone who's been following it a bit more closely than me could write up a list of the worst of the ablist cockbibs, who have gone far beyond the pale during the whole thing as I would like to personally shun these people quite hard where possible. At least until they seem to get a clue. I honestly don't want to be making jokes on the width** of someone who thinks rape survivors need to just get over their trauma and are as insensitive to the feelings of others as some have been and cannot handle criticism without flailing around with pants on their heads (especially as I like nitpicking, and I don't want a face full of tosspot as a result of nitpicking something they are sensitive about to the extent that they'd rather exclude rape survivors from their community than deal with.

Also: I really especially don't like people who talk about excluding people from communities except for meritorious reasons, and I suspect that a productive result from this whole thing would involve the creation of some kind of anti-ablist comms and organisations among the various fanfic coms involved in all this, to make it clear to new comers and old hands that the sort of behaviour that is really Special (in the sense of the special hell for child molesters and people who talk at the theatre) is not acceptable, and that you will not find support for that sort of behaviour in the various fanfic coms.

** on livejournal these things would be "journals" therefore on dreamwidth, these things must be "widths", right? do tell me if that looks like a fat joke of some kind btw. I am hardly svelte enough to make those kinds of jokes even if they were okay on a meta-level.
